We already have a gas tax increase
The USA Congress is debating a gas tax to help finance restoring our infrastructure. It is clear to me this will be labeled as a tax increase. That label will stop the bills passage.
Our roads, ports and electrical systems will continue to deteriorate till another disaster like the MN bridge disaster occurs. Yet, we are already paying more then the tax, I prefer fee, would cost us.
Not only would it help keep bridges from falling down, it would also reduce our cost of transportation. When the USA administration says it is for less reliance on foreign oil, it should be for more fuel efficient cars, less time in traffic and less cost at the repair shop.
But they say raising the cost of going on our roads is counter productive. We get what we pay for.
